Want to quickly activate and deactivate aliases without having to grab your phone? No problem! Access your favorite aliases right from your wrist with AnonAddy for Android Wearables. This post explains how to use AnonAddy for Android Wearables.
Let’s start with a painless setup process
Setting up AnonAddy on your Android Wearable is a super simple process! Open the app on your wearable and tap the notification that appears on your paired device*. Confirm pairing and you’re done! The app is now configured and standalone.
*Please note that AnonAddy for Android 4.0.0 or higher must be installed on the device for the pairing dialog to appear, also make sure the wearable device is paired and connected.
Note for F-Droid users: Users that downloaded AnonAddy for Android through F-Droid cannot use AnonAddy for Android Wearable as F-Droid uses their own signing key. Please consider purchasing AnonAddy for Android from Google Play instead.
What do we have?
When the app has been setup, opening the app shows you 15 aliases with the most recent activity, in addition to these 15 aliases you can “favorite” 3 aliases that will always appear on top of the list as well as on the favorites tile
On the very top of the list you will see 2 options, the first option allows you to create a new alias. When creating a new alias on your wearable, the default settings of your AnonAddy account are used.
The second option brings you to the settings, where you can set the interval for the backgroundservice to obtain new data, clear your favorites and reset the app.
Android Wear is all about “Tiles” which can be compared to Widgets on an Android phone or tablet. AnonAddy for Android has a unique tile that shows up to 3 favorite aliases, including the option to create new aliases and an option to open the app.
Selecting an alias opens the page where you can see the statistics for selected alias. Scrolling down gives you the option to activate/deactivate the alias, mark it as favorite or send the alias to your paired device to view it on a bigger screen.
What is a watch without a watchface?! AnonAddy for Android Wearables comes with a unique watchface that is similar to the unique setup page of the app. The random characters change every minute and when your watch it set to 12h-clock AM/PM will be appended to the time as part of the random characters.
Integration with the main app
Want to favorite an alias on your watch that is not visible in your aliases list? Simply search for the alias on your paired device and tap the “Send to watch” button. Flick your wrist and see the alias appear.
Manage the app on your wearable from your paired device by going into the AnonAddy settings and tapping the “AnonAddy for wearables” option.
From here you can start, setup and reset the app. In addition you can also see the logs from the app on the wearable. Make sure to enable logging in the app-settings on your wearable and tap “Send logs to device” to send them to the bigger screen. Very handy when something is not working right or when I need some more information for debugging.
At last you can decide if you want to receive a notification whenever your device detects a yet-to-setup AnonAddy app on a paired wearable device.
